Ultima reckon on about
£ 200 to "tool up". Here is a list of the tools
I had to buy. You may already have some of these (Ultima assume
so) and I found that not all were essential in the end (see
essential rating).
I spent around £ 600,
but this excludes the dolly and mega-double-winch made by a (good)
friend ! Hiring these may be costly and you may have the engine
in and out a few times (I did !).

Made by a good friend. Safer than
axle stands & made moving the car easy.
You can't
work on the floor and the kitchen worktops were out of bounds !
Made panelling easier and also
essential for roll pins on gear rods
Too many to do by hand
There
are some hard to reach ones
I found this difficult to use
and got a better result using files and elbow grease !
Needed
to power air riveter
Needed only 5 in the end, they were
good quality but occasionally break.
All drilled holes need
cleaning out.
This got used a lot
Absolutely essential.
You can't build an Ultima without one !! There
are too many tight spots and restricted access
Get a good
range of metric sizes plus some 5/32 inch ones for the gear rods.
Accuracy
is everything. Get three, a one, two and three foot rules,
you'll need them all
Hardly recall using one ...
Get
a good metric set and the main imperial sizes. Most are metric
but some nuts on the engine / oil & fuel hoses are imperial.
NB You need sizes >19mm only on a few occasions.
Another
top tool !
Ultima supply these but you may need more
Bloody
useless things, went in the bin.
Used a lot, especially dash
and switchgear.
For sizes < 30mm I used the step drill
Purpose
built by a friend for free (would have cost £ 1,000). Essential
for engine, made fitting a breeze.
For trimming
There
are a fair number of connections
Some cables are too thick
for pliers.
Get some big ones and some small ones, a
standard set of each will do.
Swarf from ally gets everywhere
... Compass for circles for dash
